The couple claims that the restaurant punished them for “poor parenting,” but the restaurant owner reveals the background.

LIFE STORIES

Imagine you are enjoying a wonderful meal at a restaurant after a long, exhausting day.

The parents seem to have everything under control, but suddenly a child begins to misbehave or runs from table to table.

We’ve all probably experienced this situation before.

The Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, a well-known establishment in a picturesque setting along the Toccoa River in the mountains, has decided to impose a fee for “adults who are unable to control their children.”

The reason is that the owners are fed up with parents not supervising their children while other guests are trying to enjoy their meals. A notice regarding this has now been added at the end of the menu.

It’s not surprising that many parents do not approve of this measure.

Although no specific price is listed on the menu, several Google reviews suggest that the fee is around $50.

“One owner informed me that the behavior of my children would result in a $50 increase in my bill,” commented one user.

“My wife took the kids outside while I paid the bill. The children looked at a tablet until the food arrived and they ate it. Disappointed with the experience.”

Another user wrote: “If you have kids, you should avoid this place. We were advised to go to Burger King and Walmart and that we were bad parents because our children ran through the restaurant and played by the river. The rudest owner made a big scene in front of the entire restaurant.”

In a statement, Tim Richter, the owner of the restaurant, indicated that the fee was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic after a family with nine children dined there. The children “ran through the whole restaurant.” Richter warned the family at the time instead of punishing them.

He explained: “We want parents to take responsibility.”

A guest named Laura Spillman was shocked and exclaimed: “This is crazy. Really? In my opinion, you shouldn’t do this; children are charming.”

Another visitor, Anne Cox, felt that such a fee might remind parents to take their responsibilities seriously.
