The Giant Achatina: A Perfect Pet

INTERESTING

Who wouldn’t want a pet with the perfect qualities of the Achatina?

This giant snail can live up to 10 years and eats any kind of plant-based food.

But the most interesting part is that the owner can easily forget about it for a whole two months.

When it doesn’t like its environment or has nothing to eat, it retreats into its shell and sleeps peacefully.

Just a little warm water is enough to wake up the snail.

Moreover, a snail doesn’t hear anything, makes no noise, doesn’t bite, and doesn’t even smell.

Not at all. Not even its excrement.

The Achatina is a mollusk with a brown or white body, and it can grow up to 25 cm.

It has two pairs of tentacles on its head, one for smelling and the other for seeing, though I must say, not very well.

The tiny eyes, located at the ends of the tentacles, mainly provide the mollusk with information about the light level in its environment.

It can only recognize objects located within 1 cm of it.

They don’t have auditory organs, so why would they need them?

The green parts of plants are considered the best delicacy for this mollusk.

The tiny teeth handle these parts very well.

Young snails love to eat fresh shoots and green vegetables, while older snails prefer to eat roots and decaying leaves.

However, even though plant-based food is good, the snail needs calcium to build its shell.

It can obtain it from crab skeletons, eggshells, and even old bones.
